The eve of Halloween is perfect timing for this evening of witchcraft at Kew Palace and this SaVVy Club dinner event is only one of four dinners ever held here – including the Queen!
Greeted by champagne on arrival, SaVVy members will enjoy a three course meal and a tour of the palace – including the attic beams.
If any ghosts are in residence, they will be hopefully be in hiding whilst you enjoy a very special tour of the historical roof timbers in the attic at Kew Palace.
The timbers are engraved with a series of ritual protection marks that are not easy to spot by the untrained eye.
During the time the Palace was built in the 1630s, England was a very superstitious nation and people often denounced others for witch-craft and held witch-trials.
When constructing houses, carpenters often left marks such as scribed circles or the letter V in 'vulnerable' places such as near windows, chimneys or doorways as they believed this would ward off evil.
